Medicare is a federal health insurance program which helps pay for medical healthcare services for individuals living in the Unites States who are either disabled or 65 and older. Medicare comes in different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering different forms of treatment.

It also pays for professional intervention services.

Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an alternative for individuals who want supplemental health insurance apart from what the other parts of Medicare have to offer. Individuals who have Part C may have more options available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.

Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D covers substance abuse related medications. Including medications associated with treating withdrawal symptoms during detoxification and those required for maintenance therapy such as buprenorphine or methadone.
