If a person is receiving outpatient detox they travel to the facility assisting them through detoxification every day or at least 5 days a week in most cases. Outpatient detox services are either delivered in the daytime or evening, which makes it ideal for someone who needs to maintain a normal work or school routine. Some programs may also provide options to receive detox treatment in a choice of normal outpatient or outpatient day treatment, to augment detox services and try to prevent relapse.
A standard amount of time individuals participate in outpatient detox is about seven days. A number of programs use medically assisted detoxification methods while others provide medication free detoxification services. There are times when medications are necessary to avert deadly withdrawal symptoms, as is the case with alcohol and benzodiazepine medications where seizures are at times a problem. Alternatively, staff at the center help individuals handle their physical, emotional and psychological symptoms of withdrawal and cravings until they are safely detoxified and stabilized.
While outpatient detox in Lodi is more adaptable for apparent reasons, a very serious disadvantage is that individuals are at a higher chance of relapse due to the access they maintain to drugs. Ideally, individuals will transition into a full rehabilitation facility to deal with the causes of their addiction once outpatient or inpatient detox is complete.
