Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs - Portland, MO.

One of the outpatient treatment alternatives for individuals in Portland who are struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed centers and doctors are authorized to dispense certain medications to opioid dependent individuals, many that are opioid-based also and are habit forming. With low enough amounts however, the client does not experience high feelings and also does not experience severe cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first med used for this sole purpose, but there are a few more choices currently to choose from.

Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an outpatient medical center licensed to dispense the drug, that is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The price of the drug is around $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based drug, and is a pill often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be given in highly well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is around just under $300 a month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a med which reverses the effects of opioids. An individual consuming this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken on a daily basis, and is priced approximately $450 per month. Naltrexone is another medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
