Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - St. Charles, MO.

There are addiction programs offered in or near St. Charles that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will instead no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and this is recommended and encouraged.
