Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs - Wheeling, MO.

One of the outpatient rehab alternatives for clients in Wheeling struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are certified to give certain meds to opioid dependent people, many of which are opioid-based also and are habit forming. In low enough amounts however, the user doesn't experience high feelings but also doesn't have acute cravings and is not experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication administered for this purpose, but there are other options currently to choose from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an outpatient clinic licensed to dispense the med, which is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is around $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based drug, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone which is only be dispensed in well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is approximately $300.00 per month for the generic version of the drug. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, which is a drug which blocks the effects of opiates. Someone taking this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs around $450 /month. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it is an opioid blocker and isn't an opiate. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from getting high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
