Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Senatobia, MS.

Vivitrol is a medication used to help prevent drug abuse and relapse, and is used specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release type of the med Naltrexone, which one can get via a monthly injection. It is not habit forming, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual drinks or takes opioids they essentially cannot get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that should be be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, someone who with the intent to start Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This includes people who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking medications like Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or someone who has been on Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly can be very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least a week if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Senatobia which also offers individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk to your therapist or doctor in regards to how pharmacological tools can help you build and maintain the drug-free life you want.
