Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Manhattan, MT.

Vivitrol is a drug mainly administered to help prevent drug use and relapse, and is used specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the med Naltrexone, which is available through a monthly injection. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone takes Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when someone drinks alcohol or takes opioids they essentially can't get high or drunk.

There are particular safety measures that need to be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, an individual who with the intent to begin Vivitrol must have abstained from opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This includes clients who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking drugs such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or someone who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least 7 days in order to start Vivitrol.

These meds must be used as part of a rehab program in Manhattan that also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Speak to your therapist or doctor about how pharmacological tools can help you build and maintain the drug and alcohol free life you want.
