The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and get referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, members of the military can acquire drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Red Lodge. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other substance abuse recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to no more than 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers will be permitted to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically permitted. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which occur on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed prior treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
