Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Middlesex, NC.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Middlesex that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
