American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to require recovery services for substance abuse and addiction. Reversely, American Indians and Alaska Natives are also more prone to seek treatment on their own will more than other racial/ethnic groups. Nearly 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native drug and alcohol treatment admissions arrive to rehab as criminal justice clients, meaning they have very likely accepted a court ordered diversion program to go to rehab in lieu of jail time.
