Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Ames, NE.

Vivitrol is a drug mainly administered to help prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release type of the drug Naltrexone, which is available via injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they basically cannot get high or drunk.

There are particular safety measures that need to be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. First off, an individual who with the intent to begin Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including clients who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking meds like Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or someone who has been on Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of 7 days if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Ames which also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak to your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological tools can help you build the sober life you want.
