Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Memphis, NE.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the medication Naltrexone, that is available through a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual takes a drink of alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they basically can't get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before an individual is administered Vivitrol. First off, someone who intends to start Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for at least 7-10 days. This includes people who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs like Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been on Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least seven days in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with an addiction treatment program in Memphis that also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your therapist or doctor in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you maintain and build the drug-free life you want.
