DWI clients in treatment need specific requirements met to fulfill the terms of their sentencing. Rehab facilities which help fulfill these court requirements and conditions, which are typically much more lenient than normal sentencing which would include steep fines and incarceration, are available in Peru to provide alcohol education, counseling, and further evaluation for serious alcohol or drug problems.
Drug and Alcohol Education is a primary treatment tool used at rehab programs treating DWI clients. There are a few different levels of alcohol education and this can differ by state. Level I education classes typically include 12 hours of education about the effects of alcohol and drugs. This is the what someone with a single conviction or someone under the age of 21 will often be required to complete. Level II DWI classes would consist of both substance abuse education and therapy in a court approved program. How long a client will need to participate in therapy depends on certain considerations, which can include how many DWI's the individual has had, and the severity of the offense. Most often individuals will be sentenced to the Level II classes and therapy except for when their blood-alcohol level was very low when they were stopped and there weren't any other serious charges when the offender was arrested.
