Intensive outpatient treatment, also known as "IOP", is a type of recovery from a substance abuse problem that is substantially more comprehensive and involved than a normal outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is fundamental aspect of recovery for people in Glen who have recently completed inpatient or residential rehabilitation, and still require adequate assistance and intervention while they transition to a clean and sober and ethical way of living. IOP's involve treatment which takes place much more often than normal outpatient, where the person will participate in treatment services and activities on a part time basis unless otherwise determined.
Intensive outpatient treatment typically consists of individual and group counseling and therapy sessions to continue to help address the individual's addiction. Individual sessions may take place at least once a week, and group sessions will provide the peer support that is essential for long term sobriety. While in intensive outpatient treatment, clients work on improving relapse prevention skills, the management of every day stresses and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any lingering withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Some intensive outpatient treatment programs involve family and couples/marriage counseling into the recovery process, which may be vital for individuals who need to rebuild their relationships with their loved ones and family members.
