The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehab programs, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Mount Washington are programs who are legally allowed to distribute the medications used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services aside from medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment program can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office.
