The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the administering of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Union are programs which are officially permitted to give out the medications used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary benefits aside from medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment facility can receive basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year.
