Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Clinton, NJ.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Clinton that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead not become involved in addict behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do deliver a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
