Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Hammonton, NJ.

There are programs offered in or near Hammonton that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will instead no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do deliver a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary treatment, and this is encouraged.
