Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Haskell, NJ.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Haskell that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to address the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
