The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can pick a primary care physician and get referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can acquire substance abuse treatment services in Red Bank. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other treatment services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detox are limited to no more than 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members are allowed to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly accepted. In additional to this, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed other rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
