Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Toms River, NJ.

There are programs offered in or near Toms River which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
