Regular out-patient recovery is usually a less expensive alternative to more comprehensive outpatient options or inpatient treatment, and is the least intense of formal substance abuse rehabilitation around in Cuba. Some individuals are in rehab for the first time and have chosen regular outpatient because of the cost and time commitment and logistically because of school, work or other obligations. For some, regular outpatient is a "step-down" to service following treatment in a more intense outpatient facility such as a partial hospitalization or inpatient program.
Regular out-patient treatment options usually involve group and individual counseling services occurring once maybe twice per week. Facilities that include a more diverse spectrum of services may include psychotherapies (CBT) to help with relapse prevention and dual-diagnosis services to help address co-occurring addiction and mental health disorders. The length of time a client stays in treatment can vary, and a client's progress can be judged every now and then and more rehab can be recommended based on these evaluations.
