Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Hobbs, NM.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the medication Naltrexone, which is available through a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone is adminstered Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when someone drinks or takes opioids they basically cannot get high or drunk.

There are certain safety measures that should be be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. First off, someone who plans to start Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This includes clients who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given meds such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or someone who has been taking Methadone for several years, abrupt cessation is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of 7 days in order to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Hobbs that also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak with your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you build and maintain the drug and alcohol free life you want.
