Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Nixon, NV.

Vivitrol is a med used to help prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the med Naltrexone, which is available via injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone is adminstered Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would usually be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual takes a drink of alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially cannot get drunk or high.

There are particular precautions that should be be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. First off, a client who plans to begin Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This is including people who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given meds such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or someone who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least 7 days if they want to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Nixon that also offers individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk to your therapist or Dr. about how pharmacological tools can help you build the sober life you want.
