The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can acquire drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in North Las Vegas. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detoxification are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be allowed to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly accepted. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
