There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a med which blocks the effects of opioids. A person taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and costs around $450 per month. Naltrexone is another drug used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it is an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
