SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Maine, NY.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Maine are programs who are legally allowed to dispense the drugs used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary benefits aside from medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation center can receive initial approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehab center is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of accreditation it has been given.
