Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Panama, NY.

Vivitrol is a medication mainly administered to prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the drug Naltrexone, that is available through a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual drinks alcohol or takes opioids they basically can't get high or drunk.

There are certain safety measures that need to be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a client who intends to start Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for at least seven to ten days. This includes people who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs like Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or a person who has been taking Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly can be very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least seven days in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These meds must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Panama which also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak to your doctor or therapist about how pharmacological tools can help you maintain the drug and alcohol free life you want.
