SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Pine Island, NY.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its obligations is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Pine Island are programs which are officially permitted to distribute the medicines used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get ancillary services in addition to medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation center can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification that was given.
