There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a med that blocks the effects of opioids. A person consuming this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken every day, and is priced about $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it is an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 /month.
