Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Poland, NY.

Vivitrol is a drug used to prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the medication Naltrexone, which one can get via injection once a month. It isn't habit forming, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual drinks or takes opioids they basically can't get high or drunk.

There are particular safety measures that should be be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. Firstly, an individual who with the intent to begin Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least 7-10 days. This includes people who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking drugs such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or someone who has been taking Methadone for several years, quitting quickly can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for a minimum of seven days in order to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a treatment program in Poland which also offers individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk with your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you maintain the drug-free life you want.
