SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Port Henry, NY.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment programs, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Drug prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Port Henry are programs who are officially permitted to distribute the medicines used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary benefits aside from medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehabilitation program can get their initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab program is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of certification that was granted.
