SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Valley Stream, NY.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Valley Stream are programs which are officially allowed to dispense the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT individuals must also receive ancillary benefits aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation program can receive initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the kind of accreditation it has been given.
