Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Buckland, OH.

There are programs offered in or near Buckland which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
