Regular out-patient treatment is usually a less costly alternative to more intensive outpatient centers or inpatient rehabilitation, and is the least intense of formal substance abuse rehabilitation around in West Point. Some people are in treatment for their first time and have chosen regular outpatient because of the cost and time commitment and scheduling because of school, work or other obligations. For many, regular outpatient is a downgrade to service following treatment in a more intensive outpatient center such as a partial hospitalization or inpatient program.
Regular out-patient treatment options include individual and group counseling services occurring once or twice a week. Facilities that offer a more diverse range of services may include psychotherapies (behavioral therapy) to assist with relapse prevention and dual diagnosis services to help address co-occurring substance abuse and mental health issues. The length of time a person remains in treatment can change from client to client, and a client's progress can be assessed occasionally and an extension of treatment can be recommended contingent upon these evaluations.
In many cases, a regular outpatient rehabilitation program may be deficient in intensity for an individual who is addressing a chronic alcohol and drug issue and has never experienced recovery before or has relapsed after prior outpatient rehabilitation.
