Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Oktaha, OK.

Vivitrol is a drug used to help prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the drug Naltrexone, which one can get via injection once a month. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially can't get high or drunk.

There are certain precautions that should be be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. First off, a client who with the intent to start Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including clients who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been taking Methadone for a long time, abrupt cessation is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least seven days in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These meds must be used in conjunction with a treatment program in Oktaha which also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk with your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological tools can help you live the sober life you want.
