Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Yukon, OK.

Vivitrol is a drug mainly administered to help prevent drug or alcohol dependency and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release type of the med Naltrexone, that is available via injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual drinks alcohol or takes opioids they essentially can't get high or drunk.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, an individual who plans to start Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for at least 7-10 days. This is including individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given medications like Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been taking Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly can be very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least seven days if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These medications must be used as part of a treatment program in Yukon which also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Speak with your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you maintain and build the sober life you want.
