American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to need recovery services for substance abuse and addiction. Nearly 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native addiction treatment admissions show up to treatment as criminal justice clients, meaning they have most likely accepted a diversion option to receive rehab in lieu of jail times for their charges. So as you can see, there is an absolute need for different types of treatment programs to cover all of the various requirements of American Indian or Alaska Natives, including substance abuse treatment programs in native languages.
