Medicare is a federal health insurance program that helps pay for health care for individuals living in the Unites States who are either disabled or 65 and older. For individuals that do have Medicare and need drug or alcohol treatment in Ontario, this program may cover various rehabilitation programs and recovery services. Medicare consists of different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering certain kinds of care.
Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A pays for inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and up to 60 days in rehab without a co-pay but policy holders will have to pay a deductible. Medicare only pays for 190 days of inpatient care total, this applies to the person's lifetime.
Part B (Medical Insurance) ? Medicare Part B pays up to 80% of the expenses associated with outpatient drug and alcohol treatment. This includes outpatient services, therapy, treatment for co-occurring disorders such as anxiety disorders or depression and medications dispensed by clinics. It also pays for professional interventions.
Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an option for individuals who want supplemental coverage in addition to what the other parts of Medicare have to offer. People who have Part C can have more insurance benefits available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.
Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D pays for substance abuse related medications. Including medications associated with treating drug and alcohol withdrawal and medications required for maintenance therapy such as buprenorphine or methadone.
