Smoking Allowed in Designated Area - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs - Force, PA.

It is estimated that around 75% of clients at residential rehab centers for drug addiction and alcoholism are smokers. While it is true that nicotine is addicting and clients in any sort of treatment for addiction should endeavor to be free from all addictive substances, this can introduce problems that make enforcing a smoking ban outweigh the benefits of this restriction. Someone who is addicted to a substance as life threatening as drugs and alcohol might not agree to go to treatment if they have to quit smoking cigarettes, so therefore, many rehab centers in Force allow smoking with some restrictions, limitations and in designated areas.

Some rehab centers permit clients to smoke anywhere, as long as it is outside for instance. Some facilities have a designated smoking area, which is the only place that clients are allowed to smoke in. Because nicotine is addictive, even rehab programs that have a designated area and allow smoking typically provide alternatives to smoking if the client would like to consider this as an option, such as nicotine replacement gum, patches and prescriptions. There are also facilities which allow smoking in designated areas, but provide education on the health risks associated with smoking by integrating this into their program either by way of direct one on one counseling or by providing educational literature for clients to examine. In rehab centers which allow smoking in designated areas this is sometimes only approved for clients, whereas staff are sometimes restricted from smoking at the facility or are asked to not smoke in front of clients.

Publicly funded substance abuse rehabilitation facilities are bound by the rules and restrictions in regards to smoking that are imposed by state and federal agencies which oversee and administer these programs. Private rehabilitation facilities have a bit more leeway and don't have as many restrictions imposed on them, so may be more likely to provide designated areas for smoking.
