There is also a type of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, that is a med that reverses the effects of opioids. A person taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken every day, and costs approximately $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from getting high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
