There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a drug which blocks the effects of opiates. An individual consuming this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and is priced about $450 monthly. Naltrexone is another medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it is an opioid blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from getting high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 /month.
