There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, which is a med that blocks the effects of opiates. A person taking this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and costs approximately $450 /month. Naltrexone is an additional med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it is an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 monthly.
