SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Awendaw, SC.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Awendaw are programs who are legally allowed to give out the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary benefits in addition to medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab program can receive basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years depending on the type of accreditation it has been given.
