A requirement that MAT clients must also receive ancillary benefits aside from medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment facility can get their basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment program is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the kind of certification that was granted.
