SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Lancaster, SC.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its obligations is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medicine prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Lancaster are programs who are officially allowed to dispense the drugs used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get auxiliary services aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab facility can get their initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification that was granted.
