The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications prescribed are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people.
