The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehab programs, which are programs that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications prescribed are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Spartanburg are programs which are officially permitted to give out the medicines used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.
An opioid rehabilitation center can get their basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the type of accreditation it has been given.
