Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Hecla, SD.

One of the outpatient treatment alternatives for individuals in Hecla who are battling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are certified to give certain medications to opioid dependent people, many of which are opioid-based themselves and are addiction. In low amounts however, the client doesn't feel high but also does not have intense cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug tried for this sole purpose, but there are a few more choices currently to select from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an out-patient medical center licensed to dispense the med, which is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is about one hundred and fifty dolloars a month. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is in pill form often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be administered in highly structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about just under $300 per month for the generic version of the drug. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a med which reverses the effects of opiates. An individual consuming this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken on a daily basis, and is priced approximately $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it is an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
