Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Watertown, SD.

One of the outpatient treatment options for individuals in Watertown struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed clinics and doctors are authorized to administer specific meds to opioid addicted people, many that are opioid-based themselves and are habit forming. With low enough amounts however, the individual does not feel high but also doesn't experience intense cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug tried for this purpose, but there are alternative options to select from.

Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an out-patient clinic certified to dispense the drug, which is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the drug is around $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is in pill form often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone that can only be administered in highly well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is around $300.00 a month for the generic of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a med which blocks the effects of opioids. A person consuming this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs around $450 monthly. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it is an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
